Nuthatches

“Nuthatches,” a hand-printed multi-block linocut, captures the pair of nuthatches who live in a tree in my back yard in Calgary, Alberta. The image was built up over 5 linocut layers, some printed with multiple colours on the same plate, on top of a white silkscreen base layer to help the colors shine through.

“Nuthatches” celebrates how even small moments of interaction with nature can bring joy and wonder into everyday life. For me, the subject suits the intent of This Box Is For Good perfectly: something surprising, unexpected and delightful in a tiny package, freely given and meant to keep moving, bringing a bit more of that light into others’ lives one tiny interaction at a time.
